TNA PPV Announcement

TNA have announced that they will be changing the format of their PPV business for 2013. The weekly episodes of Impact which are shown here in the UK on Sundays on Challenge TV will lead to four, Pay-Per-View events which will be live and promise to be on an epic scale, commencing with “Genesis” on January 13^th, “Lockdown” on March 10^th, “Slammiversary” on June 9^th and “Bound For Glory” on October 13^th in America and a few days later here.

As well as these PPV’s we will be treated to seven, three hour prerecorded Pay-Per-View specials which are to be known as the “TNA Wrestling: One Night Only” series. The series will be shown on the first Friday of each month in America, with the first of the series being shown in April. The first two “One Night Only” specials will be “Joker’s Wild Tag Team Tournament” and “X-travaganza” which will feature the X-Division.

President of TNA, Dixie Carter said “The Pay-Per-View industry has changed so much in the last decade. The traditional pay-per-view wrestling model needed to evolve and we believe this strategy will positively impact not only the Pay-Per-View events but the weekly television programming as well.”

It was also announced that the one hour “Unfinished Business” shows which focus on rivalries and past PPV events will continue to be produced.

Following the news, the Tie Up Wrestling team put down their thoughts on the changes and had the following to say:

@George_SLTD :	I think from TNA’s point of view, it makes financial sense to throw all their efforts into producing 4 outstanding PPV’s every year. Hopefully the PPV’s are moved away from the Impact Zone entirely, because more often than not, the crowd kills it. Guys can be having a 5* match in the Impact Zone, but the crowd are dead for everything except the finishes. I’m not saying they should book MASSIVE venues, just arenas that they know they’ve got a good chance of selling out. Kind of like what Mark says, TNA shouldn’t compete with the WWE. It’d be like a £1 store trying to compete with Harrods or Harvey Nicholls. It’s stupid. TNA now have 3 months between each PPV to build towards having great matches. These other shows they’re doing will be good as one-off specials and hopefully, they don’t do too much in terms of storylines on them. It’s a great idea and I genuinely think it’s the best thing for TNA overall, especially if the money they save leads to Impact being live for 90% of the year.

@Mark_TUW :	I think that it is a pretty good idea. I feel that there is more of an opportunity to allow storylines to build up with a three month gap in-between the main PPV's and therefore episodes of Impact will not feel as rushed. I've said for a while that TNA cannot compete with WWE directly so they need to be different; this is something different.

@AngelicalDream :	Admittedly when PPV’s are announced at the moment I usually say ‘another one all ready?!’, so this sounds like a good idea to me! The four main PPV's will have more focus and the “One Night Only” specials will be a welcome break from the weekly goings on in Impact by providing something a bit different.  Having a bigger gap in the main shows will also allow storylines to develop properly. I feel that PPV’s are often at risk of becoming too similar when a feud is dragged out over several months, in that we see big matches between the same people over and over. As for the Unfinished Business series continuing, this is excellent news. I just hope that they continue to show them on Challenge TV.

@Sportsmama32 :	I love it. While it will allow story lines to be better developed, it will also allow healing time for injuries that may or may not be severe. Injuries cause problems, not just for the wrestlers, but for fans and PPV buys as well. It gives opportunity for Impact to continue to grow and the fans a thrill without the over pricing. It also gives plenty of time for match preparing by allowing the wrestlers to work on new moves or improve and update old ones. The old thought of “what will they do next” will regain meaning. Unfinished Business is a great way to introduce new fans into the “why they are where they are now” and remind us oldies what made us love TNA to begin with. Glad it will continue as well.
